David McKinney: Director of Bands 

This is Mr. McKinney’s first year as a Mighty Panther and his 33rd year of teaching Music Education. He retired after 28 years of teaching in Mississippi and moved to Beaumont TX where he continued his career as Director of Bands. After four years in Beaumont, he and his family joined the Danbury ISD family.

Mr. McKinney is a graduate of the University of Mississippi. He began his career as the Assistant Band Director in Brookhaven MS for 10 years. In his position as an assistant, he provided music lessons to any interested student. Then, to Magnolia Middle School in Meridian MS.

After one year there, he continued his career at West Lauderdale in Collinsville MS until he retired in 2019.

While at the University of Mississippi he played in several ensembles including: The Pride of South Marching Band, The Collegians, The Mississippians, the premier traveling ensemble of the jazz program. He was also in the University Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. While in Brookhaven, he was the orchestra director for  Easthaven Baptist Church. While in Meridian, he served on the Board of Directors of the East Central Mississippi Band Director Association and one year as President. He was an active member of the orchestra at Highland Baptist Church where he was a member before moving to TX.

Mr. McKinney teaches beginner band (6th grade), middle school band (7th & 8th grade bands), high school (marching, concert and jazz) bands.
